Horse chestnut(Aesculus hippocastanum), also known as "horse chestnut", is a deciduous tree native to the Balkan Peninsula and western Asia. The tree grows to a height of 20 to 30 metres and has large, glossy green leaves and whitish or pink flowers that bloom in May or June.

The tree's fruits are hard, green spines that split open to release shiny brown seeds called chestnuts. Unlike common chestnuts, these are not commonly used for eating, but the bark and seeds of wild chestnuts are used to make various preparations to aid the body.
