Medicaria (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi) is a shrub that looks like a cranberry. It flowers in summer and in autumn the flowers develop bright red fruits. Its oblong, slightly ovate leaves are green all year round.

In folk tradition, bearberry has been used for centuries. Its effects have been written about as early as the 13th century in herbalist books. Today, it is most commonly used as a tea or tincture.

Bioherba brand tincture is made from bearberry steeped in glycerin, which gives it a sweet taste. Glycerin is a colourless, odourless liquid, slightly thicker than water.

A daily dose of the tincture is equivalent to 750 mg of bearberry.
