Citronella(Cymbopogon winterianus) is from the lichen family and is native to Indonesia, but is also widespread in Southeast Asia and especially India. It grows up to 2 metres tall and can be recognised by its smooth and glossy leaves. It is also known as a natural insect repellent and its essential oil has a pleasant fresh scent of lemon balm and lemon.

Essential oils are volatile fragrant essences, which plants store in their petals, leaves, fruits, bark and roots - citronella essential oil is thus obtained by distilling the plant.
